Camp of the Rising Sun has been in operation since 1976.  It was begun with the philosophy that special education children need a carry-over program during the summer that emphasizes success experiences.

It was began by a group of parents and concerned citizens who saw a need for a program to increase these special needs children's self-confidence, stamina, independence and ability to express himself.
